Our Tips

At Les Gazons Michel inc., we have helped enough customers to get a greener lawn to say that we know our stuff. Here is a guide of the essential steps to follow to have a perfect grass!

What Type of Grass Should I Choose?

It’s important to observe your property to determine: the amount of sunshine, the presence of plants and trees and the soil characteristics (soil type, drainage, etc.). With this information, a professional will be able to advise you on the best type of grass for your soil.

How Can I Prepare the Soil?

If the topsoil is of good quality, you can keep it as is. If not, a layer of about 12 to 15 cm needs to be added. Make sure to level off the ground and to remove all rocks, branches, etc.

What Are the Benefits of Turf Grass?

Turf grass has many advantages, including a fast establishment, less weeds and instant protection to erosion.

How Do You Lay Lawn Turf?

The best period to lay turf is in the spring and fall. If you decide to do it during summer, you will have to water your turf regularly. For successful lawn turf installation, lay the turves evenly on the soil with altered joints and make sure they don’t overlap. Each section needs to be watered as soon as it’s completed. Once 20 square meters of turf is installed, proceed to the rolling (roll filled with water). Fertilizer can also be applied to boost the rooting.

How Often Should I Water My New Grass?

The soil of a new grass has to be moist for the first 2 weeks. This means you’ll need to water your grass 2 to 3 times a day for 30 minutes (unless it’s raining). Once this period is over, water it every 2 or 3 days, depending on the weather.

When Can I Mow My New Grass?

The first mowing can be done once the grass blades are 8 cm high, about a week. The regular mowing can start 2 weeks after the grass establishment. The first fertilization can be done after the third mowing.
